Steam Engine Crankshaft Reconditioning.

Preserving Critical Components. Restoring Performance.

Steam engines remain in service across a wide range of heritage, industrial and specialist applications, where the crankshaft is one of the most critical and often irreplaceable components.

At Lincoln Crankshaft Manufacturing Ltd, we provide specialist crankshaft inspection and reconditioning services to help restore worn or damaged steam engine crankshafts and extend their operational life.

Whether supporting a historic steam locomotive, stationary steam engine, marine steam engine or other specialist application, our experienced engineering team understands the importance of preserving original components wherever practical.

Every crankshaft is different, particularly when working with older machinery where original drawings, specifications or replacement components may no longer be readily available.

Our process begins with a detailed inspection and dimensional assessment of the crankshaft to establish its condition and determine the most appropriate route for reconditioning.

Depending on the condition and requirements of the component, our capabilities can include:

  • Detailed dimensional inspection and condition assessment

  • Main and crankpin journal measurement

  • Journal wear and surface condition assessment

  • Runout and alignment checks

  • Precision machining and journal reconditioning

  • Surface finish evaluation

  • Final dimensional inspection

  • Detailed inspection and condition reporting

Our objective is to restore the crankshaft to the required dimensions, geometry and surface condition while retaining as much of the original component as possible.
